Working with the University of Liverpool and the Design Council, we were asked to help develop a gamma ray detector and imager, based around technology invented and developed by the Department of Physics.

The technology uniquely detects and visualises radiation sources, allowing emergency services in dangerous situations quick evaluation to the risk of nuclear attacks.

Our task was to build on the internal technology platform, understand the operation requirements and provide an intuitive portable device ready for production.

Working with various stakeholders and potential customers allowed us to understand the extreme situations and procedures often faced by the operator. Sketches and a series of block models were produced to scope the user journey and this led to a unique 1 button interface which allows non-experienced users quick access to functions and results.

Our delivery included pre-production product development, product branding, UI /UX support through prototyping and animation.
